Our Story

In the 1790s, Levi Shurtleff left Carver, Massachusetts with a few meager belongings and headed to the wilds of North Bridgewater, Vermont. What awaited him was years of hardship and privation, but also a chance at a better life. His determination paid off, and he was able to buy a small piece of land, start a farm, and raise a family. By the 1840s, Levi’s son, Jesse, purchased a small parcel of land close to his father’s that was to become the heart of Maple Valley Farm. Since Jesse’s time, five generations of the Shurtleff family have called Maple Valley Farm home and have continued to farm the land.

Maple Valley Farm has three seasonal pumpkin stands that are located on the North Bridgewater Road in North Bridgewater, at the intersection of Barnard and South Perry Roads in Woodstock, and in Bridgewater Village. Please come visit!

Over the years, some of the products we raise on Maple Valley Farm have changed. While we continue to raise dairy cows, we have also started raising a variety of specialty crops that include pumpkins and saffron. To experience the fun of a harvest, please join us for our Pick-Your-Own Saffron and Pumpkins event in the fall.
